Yoshikawa Ryokan

Yoshikawa, a luxury ryokan in central Kyoto with a rich history reaching back as far as the mid Edo period during 17th century. This traditional ryokan was home to a wealthy merchant and is based on the ancient Sukiya-Zukuri style of architecture. This style was particularly prominent in the creation of edo period tea houses and the property has strong ties to feeling and vibe of traditional tea houses. Delightful and refined are two of the most important things in creating a magical tea ceremony and is the ethos behind the Yoshikawa ryokan.

Originally created as a private residence, enjoy an intimate environment with Yoshikawa as the property houses only 8 guestrooms. All rooms are individually designed and furnished in the traditional ryokan style, luxury futons laid out over some of the finest quality tatami matting. Clients rooms are serviced twice a day with a morning ritual of packing away the futons to maximise space and a turndown service in the evening to prepare your futon for the upcoming night.

Luxury accommodation requires properties to provide exemplary experiences to their clients, food has now become tantamount to the equation. Yoshikawa prides themselves on kaiseki, a multi course gastronomic journey. Their individual twist on kaiseki see’s an emphasis on the art of tenpura, highlighted by an excellent array of local produce. Another speciality of Yoshikawa is their in-room Shabu-Shabu, a hot pot with thinly sliced beef and vegetables.
